We exist in a time where there is so much emphasis placed on approval and truly the only approval you should be concerning yourself with is your own. No one says you have to accept negative people or toxic situations into your inner circle. However, the most growth comes with compassion and accepting that despite not always agreeing with the path someone else may take, you still respect them for exercising their freewill to follow the beat of their own drummer. Some people may need to experience certain karmic and life lessons before they are ready to evolve to the next level.
